Digitek Security DVR Comparison:
PC vs. Stand-Alone

Here at DigiTek Security we know that deciding between a PC-based Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a Stand-Alone DVR can be confusing.  Questions like:  “Is it worth the extra money?” or “Will I be able to take advantage of the extra functionality?” keep popping into your head.

Basically, both PC-based and Stand-Alone DVRs work the same during real time viewing... but it’s the recording quality, disk space management, playback functionality and ease of use that make the difference.  The following are some quick reference questions to help you decide.

If more than 5 people will view the video over the internet ................................    PC based DVR
The PC works like a windows server, so it can handle the extra capacity.

If you plan to review recorded video often, and ease of use is important...........PC based DVR
The PC is easier to use when it comes to event searching.

If you need to store multiple weeks of video or optimize storage.........................PC based DVR
The PC has more sophisticated compression algorithms, and multiple hard drives
can be added, making many TeraBytes of storage possible.

If you just need to have the best of the best................................................................PC based DVR

FOR ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS... The Stand-Alone DVR is right for you.

We don’t care which one you pick... as long as you choose the solution that best fits your needs!  The following chart can be used to compare and contrast our most popular units.
